Vincent Healthy Schools Award - NominationsNemours Health & Prevention Services (NHPS) in partnership with the Delaware School Boards Association (DSBA), the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), Delaware Division of Public Health (DDPH), the Delaware Charter School Network, and the Delaware Association of School Administrators (DASA) is pleased to announce a call for nominations for the 2010 Edith P. Vincent Healthy Schools Award. The awards will recognize the work of public schools championing children’s health: one in the area of nutrition and one in the area of physical education/physical activity.

As families work to ensure our kids eat right and have active play at home, we also need to ensure our kids have access to healthy meals in their schools. With more than 31 million children participating in the National School Lunch Program and more than 11 million participating in the National School Breakfast Program, good nutrition at school is more important than ever. Let’s move to get healthier food in our nation’s schools.

Obesity rates tripled in the past 30 years, a trend that means, for the first time in our history, American children may face a shorter expected lifespan than their parents.
Master Gardeners Winter/Spring Workshops

Master Gardeners Winter/Spring WorkshopsMaster Gardeners enjoy gardening, have gardening experience, want to learn more about gardening and have a desire to help others in their community. They have all completed an intensive training program and volunteer a minimum of 45 hours during their first year. Master Gardeners extend the home gardening outreach of Delaware Cooperative Extension. Workshops start in January and continue till June.

The Fourth Annual Community WalkThe Sussex Child Health Promotion Coalition, the town of Laurel, Bridgeville, Georgetown, Lewes and the city of Seaford along with our senior partner Nemours Health & Prevention Services invite the community out to our fourth promoting health with our Sussex County “Spring into Health Community Walk”.  This walk is being held simultaneously in all five towns.
