Annual Community Walk Spring Into Health
The Annual Community Walk was in its Third year in 2009. The number of volunteers for the event and those who participated tripled since the beginning with just over 1,400 participants. Sponsors contributed over $10,000 in time, product and in kind services to help make this a reality. The walk was held in five locations including Bridgeville, Seaford, Laurel, Lewes and Georgetown
Laurel Regional Cup Stacking
The Coalition offered technical assistance and support to our partner the Laurel School District, who held the Second Regional Cup Stacking Competition in Laurel Delaware. Over 250 people attended this event with youth coming from over 5 different states compete. This program was the catalyst to over 100 youth getting involved in an active hobby afterschool one day a week.
Kids Day at Trap Pond
Over 950 fourth grade youth attended the kids day at Trap Pond. While there they engaged in a full day of Healthy Eating and Physical activity. The Nutrition Magician was present and put on three consecutive performances to reach all 950 youth. Captain Willey and the WBOC chopper landed and gave tours and information on the chopper. Over 12 additional partners provided kids activities and prizes as well.
Seaford Spring Fling
Seaford Wellness Committee planned to once again offer the great Spring Fling but do to harsh weather conditions it had to be cancelled.
Healthy Kids Day at Delaware State Fair (The Children's Health Fair)
The First Delaware State Fair's Childrens Health Fair took place on Healthy Kids Day on July 28, 2009. Over 20 vendors offering a variety of kids activities as well as free screenings took place. Wal-Mart offered eye screenings to hundreds of children and adults. Delaware Physicain Care, Department of Health and Social Services was well repsresneted by several departments in Public Health, Nemours from Dupont Hospital was there as well as many others. This event also hosted signings by the Coaches and Players of Remember The Titans, Miss Delaware 2007 offered dance and exercise opportunities, The up and coming Boxer Fernando Guerrero was there to talk to kids and sign autographs to just name a few of our speical guests on that day. The event hosted over 2,000 kids and their parents or mentors on that day.
